Updates on 27th May

Hi Blog!

It's been a while since I've last wrote. Been very busy with work lately. Lots of recent events, with public holidays, and Malaysia badminton team in the Thomas Cup finals. World Cup will be approaching soon too!

In a blink of an eye, it is almost mid-year. I am now off probation and still have lots of things to learn. What I know about social media is only on the surface.

Right now, we're in the midst of preparing Facebook related learning for the agency. Purpose of this is to educate the whole agency their role in Facebook social media. From selling to designing for Facebook. Break it down, then re-build each and every component in Facebook.

Can't wait to do the same for other social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. Hopefully I can come up with a more detailed entry on each and every social media platform.

Till next time!~

Canva design for social media, etc (review)

So check out this site https://www.canva.com/

Just to give a brief description, this site allows anyone with no design fundamentals to easily make coverphotos, wallpost photos, info graphics and any kind of visuals to post onto FB, blogs, or even for presentation.

Here are some samples that I have done with this site.

It does have watermark for most images which will require you to purchase them. On top of that the paid visuals are also limited in my opinion. Well, it really depends on your purpose of creating the visual.

Overall, I still prefer to learn photoshop or Illustrator from basic. This will not help noobies like me create better visuals, however an expert in design might find this site useful.

My Taxi Sexy

I am at a wine bar and saw this ad for my taxi.

Basically its a picture of a woman who doesn't look very attractive. It says, "If I start to look sexy, book a taxi." This indicates you are too drunk to drive. LOL

This is a very good advertisement. What do you think?

Generation Y and Technology

Gen Y also known as Millennial or Generation Next, in my opinion are very privileged.

Why do I say so? Well I am a Gen Y and I must say that I  will be able to see the evolution of technology and progress with it. This is a privilege.

Does anyone else remember the floppy? Well I have seen only the second generation floppy, but what follows after I am very sure that I will be able to see more. Better and higher capacity storage devices such as disc, USB, chips, cloud and more to come.

Baby boomers and Gen X might not be around long enough to see how much technology will progress with its potential, while Gen Z will never experience life without sophisticated technology the way our grandparents did. Gen Y will be the only generation to witness it all.

With technology growth, we are forced to grow along with it. Especially being in the work force at present time, by choosing to be ignorant about it we will loose out a lot.

Being Gen Y and knowing how things were before smartphones and tablets, gives us an upper hand of not being too dependent of technology. We appreciate the good old times when we were just playing in the dirt or just good old fashion boardgames. Gen Z are now seen with smartphones and tablets while still having to suck on their pacifier.

The world has changed. People have now become too dependent on technology. Once its taken away, we become useless. However this is only the beginning of technology. There will come a day when technology becomes somewhat like the sun. Hopefully Gen Y will be still around to witness that. That will be a true privilege and that I can say that I have stuck around to see technology developed from start to its endless possibilities.

Feel free to state your opinion in the comment box. I would like to learn more from you as what I have stated above is just my own opinion and I may not be the expert of this subject matter.

Thanks for reading, your opinion will be much appreciated.

Google Analytics Academy review

I have been studying and completing the FREE online tutorial for GA fundamental over the weekend.

It is a very useful course to understand how analytics and data is used in digital to achieve business objectives.

This course also made me aware of how various departments in digital companies contribute towards business objectives. For instance, social have to work with IT programming team to make accurate data collection possible. Marketing and management team have to work with social team to identify business objectives and ways to achieve them through digital.

The course provides detailed explanation as well as good hands on examples where by we can put into practice what we've learnt. It will take up to 4 hours or more to complete the course depending on your familiarity with digital.

That'll be all for now, till next time, cheers!

What I am doing

I am a Social Media Specialist.

Just started this role beginning of the month and today is my third week in.

Being a newbie, I have lots to learn about social media strategies. Data mining, analytic, communities management, social interaction, social participation, conceptualization and strategic ad buying or media planning. Those are basically the fundamental of my job description.

My perception of social media has changed entirely. Social media is no longer just Facebook and Twitter, sharing with friends and family. But rather a tool that businesses can gain insights to connect with you as a consumer or potential customer.

There is just so much to read and so much information to absorb. Best of all, ALL the information are FREE!!!

Do I see myself doing this for a long time? Yes, definitely! There is just so much to learn and I believe that social media will constantly grow and that I will have to grow with it eventually.

Here is a little info-graphic I got from mashable.com

Dontalk Review

Annyeong All!

This is a pretty cool chat app I found online. Was watching Running Man episode 175 and saw them posting mission statements via Dontalk's pop message that will self destruct in few seconds after message is open.

Dontalk has several functions that makes it really awesome.

So far I've tried message recall, whereby if the recipient hasn't read your message, you can just delete it before they see it. However, if they have seen it you can't. This way you could also know if they have seen your message.

I've also tried the pop message which is super fun! Feels like mission impossible.. This message will self destruct in 10 sec... 9... 8 ... 7.... (you may set the seconds as you wish. default 1 - 30 sec, and manual any amount of seconds). You'll never get to read the message again. It's gone. Impressive!

Haven't tried the whisper function which allows you to send a secret message to one or some people in a group chat while leaving out the other person and they wouldn't even notice. This was what Gwang Soo did to Jung Kook in the same episode. Hehe..

I like how this app is super creative, however it's not very popular here in Malaysia and I had no friends in my contact list. I had to manually invite them to download the app. The link sent to my friends were in Korean and well, they will ask me "what is this?" and I will have to explain like as many times as I send out an invitation to use this app. I guess that is the only down side to this. Otherwise, when this becomes popular and well accepted, I don't think that will be a problem.
